EUROMAT Raises Concerns Over Croatia’s New Gambling Reforms
The European Gambling and Amusement Federation (EUROMAT) has raised concerns regarding Croatia’s recent amendments to its Gambling Act. The federation alleges that the Croatian government failed to properly inform the European Commission about the changes, as required by EU law. EUROMAT has identified several regulations in the amendments that it deems as technical regulations. Additionally, the changes propose an increase in license fees and taxes, which could result in a reduction in the number of gambling establishments.
The federation is concerned about the lack of notification, as these regulations could restrict market access and impede the movement of services within the EU market. Filip Jelavic, General Secretary of the Croatian Gaming Association, also expressed concerns about the lack of proper procedures followed by Croatia in implementing significant changes.
