FRC Launches Investigation into KPMG’s Audit of Entain’s Financials
The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of the United Kingdom, an independent regulator responsible for auditors, accountants, and actuaries, has recently announced that it will be launching an investigation into KPMG’s audit of Entain’s financial statements. This decision comes at a time when KPMG’s reputation has been under scrutiny due to recent scandals.

According to the FRC, the investigation into KPMG’s audit of Entain’s financials for the year ended December 31, 2022, will be conducted by its Enforcement Division under the Audit Enforcement Procedure. This marks the sixth financial reporting audit that KPMG has carried out for Entain, a prominent player in the gambling industry.
The FRC’s Conduct Committee made the decision to open the probe on November 21, 2024, with the aim of ensuring transparency and accountability in financial reporting practices.
Entain’s Recent Controversies
Entain, known for being a major gambling operator in the UK and co-owner of the popular BetMGM brand, has faced its fair share of controversies in recent years. In 2023, the company agreed to pay a hefty GBP 585 million under a deferred prosecution agreement with the Crown Prosecution Service, related to historical business activities in Turkey and allegations of bribery-related offenses.
Following this agreement, Entain was required to cease its operations in unregulated markets, further highlighting the seriousness of the issues at hand.

Entain expects its group EBITDA to fall within the previously announced range of $1.27 billion to $1.33 billion, with a focus on reaching the upper end of this forecast.
Similarly, BetMGM anticipates a similar EBITDA loss for the second half of the year compared to the first half, projecting a full-year loss of around $250 million.
